Popular film and media have conditioned us to dedicate so much of our energy into finding our forever person, and then pinning all our hopes and expectations on them. The most heartbreaking way for limerence to end is in the loss of a friendship.
For me, limerence is essentially a relationship in my head and where I overlook flaws, faults, compatibility issues and the actualities of the relationship. It’s an idealised relationship where I imagine my LO can fix me, if she just liked me. Essentially, it’s not real and it’s about my own underlying flaws and MH issues.
Limerence is essentially autopilot mind wandering pattern. Just occurred to me that limerence is essentialy just that. An intrusive thought/feeling, as you go about doing your daily life, it comes. All that growth has reduced my limerence to a mere fraction of what it once was. While it used to blind me and overtake my mind completely, now it’s nothing but a speck of dust that sometimes gets in my eyes. It’s allowed me to see my limerence for what it was- and its so interesting to analyze that thought:
