The Independent's obituary of Rodney Bewes states: "Bewes first performed his one-man version of Three Men In A Boat at the Acorn, Penzance, in 1995. He toured with it for the rest of the decade, then premiered Diary Of A Nobody at Edinburgh in 2000.

The original series cast them as two working class lads in their early 20s living in Newcastle. The sequel saw Terry returning home after leaving the army and renewing his friendship with the now engaged to be married Bob.
