A 1974 Gibson Les Paul Custom electric guitar, formerly owned and played by Steve Jones of The Sex Pistols, has just been sold for $390,000 at auction, well beyond its $100,000 - $200,000 estimate. The Gibson was originally owned by New York Dolls guitarist Sylvain Sylvain, before being passed on to Steve Jones.
DQ: Never saw the Sex Pistols live, however I was once scheduled to catch them, at a gig in August 1977 on a quadruple bill with The Damned, The Clash and The Jam. Unfortunately the Pistols and The Jam pulled out at the last moment. As a substitude for them we got an unknown bespectacled bloke called "Elvis Costello"...
