Science says nope, but they're a big deal in Navajo culture, like evil shapeshifting witches. No. No, of course not. There’s no real evidence to say they are. Depends on who you ask I guess. I wouldn't fear them personally, but I probably wouldn't go against "protective advice" from people native to that region.
Whether or not there's activity there, and it IS located in a valley the Navajo have said for generations is cursed, related to skinwalkers (which are specifically a Navajo tradition), the show seems to be 99% bullshit. None of the activisit the Shermans claimed they saw sounds like skinwalkers, but that's not to say it didn't happen.
Skinwalkers and other witches have long been blamed for all manner of unexpected struggles and tragedies through the years, including sickness, drought, poor crops, and sudden deaths. Even smaller or individual problems such as windstorms during dances, alienation of affection by mates, the death of livestock, and reversal of fortune, were often believed to be the work of a witch.
