Butterflies are perhaps the most universally loved insect — their beauty and grace captivates us and their presence brings us joy. Ecologically, butterflies are also incredibly important!

Ironweed gets somewhere between 3 and 10 feet tall, which could be problematic for a ground cover. I’m in Pittsburgh, so probably fairly similar to where you are. Blue eyed grass does well for me, when it gets enough sun. I find that violets do well in less sunny areas, although they don’t stay green all summer.
