The Kubrick adaption is more tolerable, but it's similarly not great as a film or adaption of the novel, in my opinion. I'm trying not to be incendiary to the film bros here, but Kubrick has always struggled to see women and girls as complex, richly interiored beings, and I think that's a huge part of why his version of Lolita lacks.
