5 giorni fa · The site of the building was anciently called the Mill Field (from a mill which adjoined it, and which Mill Street, hard by, still commemorates), or Kirkham Close. It was originally in the parish of St. Martin's-in-the-Fields, though in 1778 it was joined on to that of St. George's, Hanover Square.
2 giorni fa · A permanent grant appears to have been made later, for in 1711 Benjamin Lane conveyed to Edward Lascelles and his heirs 'all that capital messuage or mansion house called Upton Court.' Edward Lascelles was probably the greatgrandfather of Edward Lascelles, who was created Lord Harewood in 1796, as the latter held the property in 1809.
