He gave £1,000 for the rebuilding of St. Mary's Aldermary Church, where he was afterwards buried, but 'his bones were unkindly cast up' (Stow, i., 253). Two later Lord Mayors, Sir William Laxton (1544–5) and Sir Thomas Lodge (1562–3) were buried in his vault. 1504.
3 giorni fa · Sir Robert Tichborne (Skinner), mayor in 1656, sat on the trial of Charles I., and signed the death warrant. Sir Richard Chiverton (Skinner), mayor in 1657, was the first Cornish mayor of London. He was knighted both by Cromwell and by Charles II., which says something for his political dexterity.

He attacked the authority of the heads and the cramping effect of the Elizabethan statutes, many of which it was impossible to observe.
