Looks like some deck of cards was trown against the Saudi's for the broader arab elite making the forever war a sideshow. I do not believe the KSA's highest priority was Jamal Khassoghi. He criticised mbs that’s it the sad and funny part is that he wanted to retire after marriage so his assassination was unnecessary.
