5 giorni fa · GIRTON COLLEGE. Girton College lies about 2 miles north-west of Cambridge at the junction of the road from Girton village with the Huntingdon Road. In 1951 the College grounds extended over about 52 acres of gardens, playing fields, woodlands, and farm land.
3 giorni fa · No ancient woodland survived in the 20th century. Until then Girton was devoted mainly to arable farming, formerly on a triennial rotation. Its open fields were inclosed in 1808. Girton College, one of the first two colleges established for women at Cambridge, was installed in buildings in the south by the main road in 1873.
