Acton had, among other things, the merit of having the first Maritime Atlas of the Kingdom of Naples created in 1781, complete with the coasts of Southern Italy from Gaeta to Ancona.

In the following year Francis became sheriff, in 1732 was lord mayor and received the honour of knighthood, and from 1727 until his death in 1740 was president of Christ's Hospital.
