Schwerin wurde im Jahr 1018 erstmals als Wendenburg erwähnt und erhielt 1164 von Heinrich dem Löwen deutsche Stadtrechte. Damit ist sie die älteste Stadt im heutigen Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
