4 apr 2012 · Flea is a band bass player, first and foremost, and a very very good one. Les Claypool IS the band, with a bunch of backing musicians. Flea is better than Les at being Flea, and vice versa.

Sausage. In 1988 Claypool began a short-lived alternative/funk rock band featuring Todd Huth on guitar and Jay Lane on drums. The group released their first album in April 1994 "Riddles Are Abound Tonight" by Prawn Song Records, and did a few short tours and opened for groups such as Helmet, Rollins Band, and Slayer.

So overall, I would agree Les is the better bassist. Flea has a stronger groove in my opinion, but Les is more original and more versatile. What really makes him stand out is that Les can make very minute and subtle elements sound like a lot more than what they actually are.
