The band originally consisted of Brad Arnold (lead vocals, drums), Matt Roberts (lead guitar, backing vocals) and Todd Harrell (bass guitar), with Chris Henderson (rhythm guitar) joining in 1998.

On the day we spoke with Brad Arnold, he and Harrell reeled in a 150 pound tuna. Brad Arnold wrote many of the songs on the band's first album when he was still in high school.

Best-selling album since 1990: The Better Life (2000) Hit songs since 1990: "Kryptonite," "When I'm Gone" 3 Doors Down, exemplars of postgrunge or alternative rock, emerged from the small town of Escatawpa, Mississippi, in the mid-1990s.
The group was later joined by drummer Richard Liles, who played during the tour for their first album. The band's second album, Away from the Sun , continued the band's success; it debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 chart, went multi-platinum in the U.S. like its predecessor, and spawned the hits "When I'm Gone" and "Here Without You".
