4 apr 2024 · Richard Woodville, 1st Earl Rivers (died Aug. 12, 1469, Kenilworth, Warwickshire, Eng.) was the father-in-law of the Yorkist king Edward IV of England (reigned 1461–70, 1471–83). Nobles opposed to Rivers initiated the uprising that temporarily drove Edward into exile in 1470.

Preso prigioniero da Richard Neville, conte di Warwick (1460), riuscì a fuggire e qualche mese dopo combatté con Enrico a Towton e lo accompagnò nella fuga a Newcastle. Dopo l'avvento di Edoardo IV, passò (1461) dalla parte yorkista e il matrimonio della figlia Elisabetta col re (1464) accrebbe molto le sue fortune: conte nel 1466, nel 1467 divenne alto connestabile d'Inghilterra.
