The oeuvre. I tackle my art as a poetical-plastic transposition. Poetry does not stem from the topic, but from the shapes and colours which compose it. From pastel to stained glass windows or from mosaic to oil painting, what matters is to blend poetry with plastic.
Swiss painter of Russian heritage, Théodore Strawinsky (1907-1989), son of the famous composer Igor Stravinsky, was an extremely prolific artist. His work belongs to a dual lineage of Post-Impressionism and Cubism whose essential messages – a new relationship with reality and the autonomy of a work of art – he made his own.
T he Théodore Strawinsky collection is made up of an ensemble of almost 5,000 works (oils, pastels, watercolours, gouaches, prints, and graphite drawings). More than 700 models and preparatory works connected with his religious artworks were donated in 1995 to the Musée Suisse du vitrail (Vitromusée) in Romont.
