The Actors Studio is a membership organization for professional actors, theatre directors and playwrights located on West 44th Street in Hell's Kitchen, New York City. The studio is best known for its work refining and teaching method acting .

Located in the heart of the Theatre District in New York City, the Studio’s landmark structure on West 44th Street houses offices, rehearsal spaces, the Paul Newman Library, and a 99-seat theatre. Sessions are private, but the theatre opens to the public occasionally when our work is considered ready for an audience.
The Actors Studio was founded in 1947 in New York City, by Elia Kazan, Cheryl Crawford and Robert Lewis. Lee Strasberg became Artistic Director in 1951, and remained so until his death in 1982. In New York, Al Pacino, Harvey Keitel and Ellen Burstyn are Co-Presidents.
The Actors Studio’s legacy is profound and unique in the history of American Theatre and Film. Our alumni include many renowned, acclaimed, beloved artists – actors, writers, and directors who have left their mark on the world’s stage.
