Knud Plesner Ibsen (3 October 1797, in Skien – 24 October 1877, in Skien) was a Norwegian merchant from the city of Skien and the father of the playwright Henrik Ibsen. He is widely considered the model for many central characters in his son's plays, including Jon Gynt in Peer Gynt and Old Ekdahl in The Wild Duck.

Like other Ibsen plays, it is rich in references to Ibsen's family, with "Old Ekdal" widely considered one of the most famous literary portraits of the playwright's father Knud Ibsen. The character "Gregers Werle" represents the spirit of the Paus family and Upper Telemark, a broader theme that is found in many of Ibsen's plays.

His father, Knud Ibsen, was a prosperous merchant, but his risky speculations brought about his financial ruin when Ibsen was seven.
Ruined and humiliated, Knud Ibsen brought the family – including the seven-year-old Henrik – to live in a dilapidated farmhouse in the barren countryside. The Ibsens lived hand-to-mouth; despite the artistic aspirations of his mother Marichen, there was barely enough money to send Henrik to school.
