William Herbert, 1st Baron Powis KB (c. 1573 – 7 March 1655) was a Welsh politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1597 and 1629.

In 1587 Edward sold the lordship and castle of Powys to his kinsman Sir Edward Herbert, the second son of William Herbert, 1st Earl of Pembroke (1501–1570). Edward Herbert's son, William Herbert became the 1st Baron Herbert of Powis.
WILLIAM HERBERT (1626 - 1696) The 3rd baron Powis was regarded as the chief of the Roman Catholic aristocracy in his day, and his wife was also a Roman Catholic, being the lady Elizabeth Somerset, daughter of the marquess of Worcester; he married her in 1654.
His son, William Herbert (1573-1656), was created 1st baron Powis. His grandson, William Herbert (c. 1629-1696), 3rd baron Powis, was created Marquis of Powis, whilst his own grandson, William Herbert (c. 1698-1748), the 3rd Marquis, died unmarried, when all his honours became extinct.

He took part in Somerset's trial (December 1551) and was rewarded with his Wiltshire estates. On 8 April 1550, he was made president of the Council at Ludlow, and in October 1551, baron Herbert of Cardiff and earl of Pembroke.
