La band - originariamente chiamata "Betty Blue" - si formò nel 1986 a Blackwood, nel Galles, ad opera di James Dean Bradfield (voce e chitarra), da suo cugino Sean Moore , Nicky Wire (vero nome Nicholas Jones, chitarra ritmica, fratello del poeta Patrick Jones) e Flicker (basso, vero nome Miles Woodward).

3 giu 2021 · Original bassist Flicker (Miles Woodward) left the band in early 1988, reportedly because he believed that the band were moving away from their punk roots. The band continued as a three-piece, with Wire switching from guitar to bass, and in 1988 they released their first single, “Suicide Alley”.

23 mar 2021 · La scomparsa. Richey Edwards scomparve il 1° febbraio 1995, il giorno in cui lui e Bradfield sarebbero dovuti partire per gli Stati Uniti per un tour promozionale di “The Holy Bible”. La mattina del 1 febbraio Richey , con addosso portafoglio, le chiavi della macchina, un po ‘di Prozac e il passaporto lascia l’hotel alle 7:00.
Flicker (Miles Woodward), their original bassist, left the band in 1988, the same year they released their first single, ‘Suicide Alley.’. Richey Edwards, a guitarist, soon joined the band. They signed to Damaged Goods Records for the ‘New Art Riot’ EP in 1990, then to Heavenly Records in 1991.
