Jean-Baptiste Berthier né le 6 janvier 1721 à Tonnerre et mort le 21 mai 1804 à Paris est un ingénieur-géographe et architecte du XVIII e siècle.
Jean-Baptiste Berthier (1721–1804) was an officer (Lieutenant-Colonel) in the French Corps of Topographical Engineers during the reigns of Louis XV and Louis XVI.

In fact, he was the first child of Jean Baptiste Berthier, (the geographical engineer of Louis XV and the head of the service of geographical engineers of the King until 1772), and of Marie Françoise Lhuillier de la Serre, the chambermaid of the Count of Provence.
Fact file. Born Versailles, 20 November, 1753, died Bamberg (Bavaria), 1 June 1815. ‘Fils naturel et légitime' of an ancien régime noble, Jean-Baptiste Berthier, an engineer and geometer. Married Elisabeth of Bavaria in 1808. Trained at the Ecole du Génie d'Auxerre military engineers college.
