Jesus Loves You - The Martyr Mantras è il 4º album del cantante anglo-irlandese Boy George, pubblicato nel 1990 (in Italia, il 12 febbraio del 1991), sulla piccola etichetta fondata dallo stesso Boy George, la More Protein, distribuita dalla Virgin Records.
The Martyr Mantras is the only studio album by Jesus Loves You and the fourth studio album by Boy George. It was credited to Jesus Loves You worldwide except in North America, where it was credited to Boy George upon its release there in 1991.
History. After the band Culture Club broke up, Boy George started a solo career. He succeeded with the singles taken from his debut album Sold in 1987. For the next two albums, Tense Nervous Headache (1988) and Boyfriend (1989), he wanted to break out in a new direction, by dabbling in electronic dance music.

The 1990 album, The Martyr Mantras, included George's first UK top-40 hit since 1987, Bow Down Mister - a song originally written for an aborted Culture Club reunion. It should be noted that in many countries The Martyr Mantras and its singles were marketed as Boy George solo releases, with no mention of the Jesus Loves You name.
15 dic 2023 · Rebirthing as Jesus Loves You, the short-lived rebrand enabled him to swerve some of the preconceived judgements attached to his name and divert the listener’s attention back to the music. The resulting body of work, 1991’s The Martyr Mantras, is a reflective listen.
