St Edmund's School Canterbury is a private day and boarding school located in Canterbury, Kent, England and established in 1749. The extensive school grounds were acquired in 1855. The school currently caters for girls and boys aged 3–18, including the Choristers of Canterbury Cathedral.
St Edmund’s today is a dynamic co-educational 2-18 day and boarding school. Our pupils benefit from a caring and supportive environment, high-calibre teaching and a holistic educational approach that seeks to develop creativity, leadership qualities and original thinking.
There are six key entry points to St Edmund’s School Canterbury – Nursery, Reception, Year 3, Year 7, Lower Fifth (Year 9) and Lower Sixth (Year 12). However, pupils are also admitted into other year groups where places are available.
Canterbury is key to the story of Christianity in this part of the country: when Augustine was sent by the Pope in 597 AD to reestablish the religion in southern England, he came here. Ruins of the monastery he built still remain, and he founded the first cathedral in England on the site of the current Norman building.
