Lieutenant-Colonel Rhys Williams (the second Rhys was added to his name in 1938) was the only bomb commander to survive from the early months of the 1914-18 war. He was an accomplished barrister and succeeded his father, Judge Gwilym Williams, as Chairman of Quarter Sessions in Glamorgan from 1906.
