Peter Hook (born 13 February 1956) is an English musician, best known as the bassist and co-founder of the rock bands Joy Division and New Order. Hook often used the bass as a lead instrument, playing melodies on the high strings with a signature heavy chorus effect.

Joy Division, later to become New Order following frontman Ian Curtis’ death in 1980, was a band inspired by a healthy range of music, from the glam-era exploration of David Bowie and Roxy Music to the formative proto-punk work of Iggy Pop and The Velvet Underground.
