La band si formò in origine nel West Midlands grazie al bassista Martin Blunt che, dopo lo scioglimento dei Makin' Time, ingaggiò altri musicisti della stessa contea: Rob Collins (tastiere), Jon Brookes (batteria), John Baker (chitarra) e il cantante Baz Ketley, che fu sostituito quasi immediatamente da Tim Burgess.
