The title _Modern Cool_ becomes most apparent on the song "Silent Partner" with Dave Douglas' muted trumpet solo bringing to mind an earlier cool school. Patricia Barber's sultry and slow tempo vocals on the cover of "Light My Fire" are also cool when compared to the urgency of Morrison's vocals on the original version.
