While in school Dean still found time to hone his drumming and compositional chops as a member of one of the northeast Ohio's favorite rock bands, 'The Zou,' all while retaining an aggressive schedule with Matrix indoor marching percussion ensemble.

On “Ulysses,” the band channels early Phil Collins with pulsing synths and larger-than-life drums, while the tender “Glass House” crescendos from a delicate whisper to a triumphant roar, and the dreamy “I’ve Got A Feeling It Hurts” calls to mind the hypnotic drive of REM mixed with a touch of Jayhawks jangle.
Current guitarist Eric Hall began his career with Red Wanting Blue during this time period. The band settled into an Americana rock ‘n’ roll vibe utilizing more melodic sounds than that of their prior work. Drummer Dean Anshutz joined the band toward the end of this album cycle.
8 ago 2018 · Dean from Red Wanting Blue here! We’re a band based in Columbus, Ohio and I’ve been with the band since late 2009. I mostly tour with RWB, but also have an active percussion quartet and drum studio back home in Youngstown. We’re on the road touring our new record The Wanting.
Red Wanting Blue, formed in 1996 in Athens, Ohio, is comprised of Scott Terry on lead vocals, tenor guitar, and ukulele; Mark McCullough on bass, chapman stick, and vocals; Greg Rahm on guitar, keyboards, and vocals; Eric Hall on guitar, lap steel, and vocals; and Dean Anshutz on drums and percussion.
