Film (Trailer and Excerpts) – 2013. Set in the early 1900s, this feature follows a Māori medicine woman (played by singer Whirimako Black) who leaves Tūhoe country to for Auckland. There a Māori servant (Rachel House) enlists her to help a wealthy Pākehā woman ( Westside’s Antonia Prebble) with a scandalous secret.
The film premiered in New Zealand cinemas on 27 June 2013. It screened in the Contemporary World Cinema section at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. The film was selected as the New Zealand entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards.
