Stubbington House School [1] was founded in 1841 as a boys' preparatory school, originally located in the Hampshire village of Stubbington, around 1 mile (1.6 km) from the Solent. Stubbington House School was known by the sobriquet "the cradle of the Navy". [2]

15 dic 2012 · A Memory of Stubbington. I never went to Stubbington House School, however, I have lived in Stubbington for 70 years. I loved the buildings and the daffodils on the front lawn, the walled kitchen garden on the corner of Bells Lane; the school was almost self sufficient with a dairy and kitchen garden surrounded by high walls in Bells Lane.
Stubbington House, an attractive Queen Anne building which sat in the position now occupied by the tennis courts, was demolished in 1967. Two of the buildings associated with the school are still in use - the assembly hall is used by the scouts and the Community Centre incorporates a classroom block.
Historical Development. Originally a square Queen Anne building constructed in 1715 and set in 20 hectares of parkland, Stubbington House became a school in1841 when acquired by William Foster. It was known as the ‘cradle of the navy’ with many well- known alumni having passed through it.
