The Boston Latin School is a public exam school in Boston, Massachusetts. It was established on April 23, 1635, making it both the oldest public school in colonial-era British America and the oldest existing school in the United States.

With its roots dating back to 1635, Boston Latin School is a six-year college preparatory school which provides a rigorous academic program in the classical tradition and which fosters the pursuit of excellence.
Boston Latin School is the oldest school in America. It was founded April 23, 1635 by the Town of Boston (see Footnotes), antedating Harvard College by more than a year. The curriculum of the school is centered in the humanities, its founders sharing with the ancient Greeks the belief that the only good things are the goods of the soul.
The Boston Latin School Association, formed in 1844 to raise funds for the school library, continues more than 179 years later as the connection between the alumni and the school, while also supporting the students and faculty of today through its fund-raising efforts.
