28 apr 2024 · “Cissy” was a term used in New Orleans to describe a sassy, confident woman, and the “strut” was a dance that involved moving the hips and the feet in a distinctive, syncopated rhythm. According to The Meters’ guitarist Leo Nocentelli, who wrote the song, “Cissy Strut” was inspired by a funky guitar riff that he had played during a rehearsal.
