Stan Getz meets João & Astrud Gilberto: New York 1964 is a live recording of bossa nova in the making. In 1990, the Giants of Jazz label released a live recording of a 1964 New York City performance featuring Stan Getz, João Gilberto and Astrud Gilberto, the latter's then-wife.
Getz/Gilberto is an album by American saxophonist Stan Getz and Brazilian guitarist João Gilberto, featuring pianist and composer Antônio Carlos Jobim (Tom Jobim), who also composed many of the tracks. It was released in March 1964 by Verve Records.

14 mar 2024 · The 1964 collaboration between US tenor saxophonist Stan Getz and Brazilian trio Antonio Carlos Jobim, João Gilberto and Astrud Gilberto was as inevitable as it was spellbinding.
Recorded in March 1963, “Getz/Gilberto” was a true summit meeting featuring Getz on tenor sax, Antonio Carlos Jobim on piano and João Gilberto on guitar and Portuguese vocals. They were accompanied by two other Brazilians, bassist Sebastião Neto and drummer Milton Banana.

1 ago 2023 · João Gilberto’s singing is pleasant enough but the album succeeds on the strength of the compositions, the vocals recorded by Astrud Gilberto on ‘The Girl from Ipanema’ and ‘Corcovado (Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars)’ and of course, the magnificent playing of Getz.
