Neil McBain (15 November 1895 – 13 May 1974) was a Scottish professional footballer and football manager. He remains the oldest player to appear in an English Football League match aged 51 years.
McBain lived a full and noteworthy life. He served in the Great War, in both the Royal Navy and Black Watch. In his playing career he represented the unprecedented trio of Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton.

10 mag 2021 · Neil McBain died in hospital back in Ayr, aged 78, on May 13, 1974. On his death, the Liverpool Echo described him as ‘one of the most remarkable characters in professional football’ and ‘one of the most travelled men in the game’.

A Scottish international centre half in his day, he played for Everton, Liverpool land New Brighton as just part of his incredible career and became one of the most travelled men in British football.
As Liverpool won the League United were relegated and McBain left Old Trafford in the middle of the 1922/23 season for first division Everton. At Liverpool McBain replaced long-serving full-back Tommy Lucas for the final stages of the 1927/28 season, when he played in ten of the last 11 fixtures.
