Aghorenath (also spelt Aghornath) Chattopadhyay (1851–1915) was an Indian educationist and social reformer. First Indian to secure a D.Sc. (Doctor of Science) degree, he later became the first principal of Nizam College, Hyderabad. [2]

13 feb 2020 · Her father Aghorenath Chattopadhyay was a Bengali Brahim who was the principal of the Nizam’s College in Hyderabad. Sarojini’s parental home was at Brahmangaon in Bikrampur (currently Bangladesh).

Aghorenath Chattopadhyay (father of Sarojini Naidu) was the first Indian to obtain a D.Sc from a foreign University, graduating at Edinburgh University in 1875. Prafulla Chandra Ray, who became Vice President of the Chemical Society at Edinburgh and later founded India’s first chemical company, completed his doctorate at Edinburgh in 1887.
Sarojini Naidu was born in Hyderabad on 13 February 1879 to Aghorenath Chattopadhyay. Her father was from Brahmangaon, Bikrampur, Dhaka, Bengal (now in Bangladesh). Her father was a Bengali Brahmin and the principal of Nizam College. He held a doctorate of Science from Edinburgh University. Her mother wrote poetry in Bengali.
