The group's early line-up consisted of Ari Up (Ariane Forster) and Palmolive (a.k.a. Paloma Romero, who played briefly with Spizzenergi and later left to join the Raincoats ), with Viv Albertine and Tessa Pollitt replacing founding members Kate Korus and Suzy Gutsy. [1]
Guitar-wielding expatriate American Kate Korus (real name Katherine Corris) was a founding member of The Slits, who at the time had more enthusiasm for just being a group than for actually playing anything approaching music, so she left early on, “determined never, ever, to be with a group who didn’t know what they were doing”.
Kate Korus formò i the Mo-dettes nel 1979. 8 mar 2024 · Up was unafraid to be totally herself – she was often loud, vulgar, bratty and reckless – which was precisely what the band needed. The lineup initially featured Up, Palmolive, Suzy Gutsy and Kate Korus, before the latter two were soon replaced by Tessa Pollitt and Albertine, respectively.
The Slits. This UK feminist punk outfit formed in 1976 with a line-up featuring Ari-Up (b. Ariane Forster; vocals), Kate Corris (b. Katherine Corris, New York, USA; guitar), Palmolive (b. Paloma Romero; drums, later of The Raincoats) and Suzi Webb aka "Gutsy" (bass).
Kate Korus joined The Slits as guitarist, before moving on to form The Modettes. Tessa and Viv then joined the ranks, completing the definitive early line-up. After a few gigs they were invited by the Clash to support them on the ‘White Riot’ tour.
