1 gen 1978 · A Song For Lya is obviously a very early work and you can tell that he is just starting to become comfortable with some of his recurring themes. But that doesn't matter once you are into the story. Because regardless of the number of technical things at which George R. R. Martin excels, story telling is his best.

A Song for Lya is a science-fiction novella by George R. R. Martin, first published in the June 1974 issue of Analog Science Fiction and Fact. It takes place in the "Thousand Worlds" universe, and is set on the Fyndii Space planet of Shkea during the post-Interregnum period.
Sci-Fi and Horror are blended to excellent result in this collection of 10 short stories, featuring telepaths, ghosts, strange life forms, and very imaginative worlds. The standouts were "With Morning Comes Mistfall", "Override", and the Hugo Award-Winning title-story, "A Song For Lya", but in truth- there wasn't a bad apple in the bunch.
