19 nov 2019 · A look back at The Panel – the Irish comedy show that launched Andrew Maxwell’s career. Orlaith Condon. 19/11/2019. The year was 2003, Bertie Ahern was Taoiseach, Mickey Harte was heading for the Eurovision and The Panel was the newest addition to Irish TV.
2 mag 2005 · The Panel returns for it’s fourth series on RTÉ Two with plenty of the stalwarts and a few new faces thrown in for good measure. Dara O’Briain presents, joined in programme one by The Blizzard of Odd’s Colin Murphy, comedians Neil Delamere and Andrew Maxwell and journalist Fiona Looney.
The success of the show has resulted in successful spin off shows in Ireland (hosted by Dara Ó Briain; see The Panel (Irish TV series)) and New Zealand (hosted by Cal Wilson). Another spin-off, supposedly the Afghanistan version, was introduced on the 2005 Christmas special.
