Welcome to the website of The Waid Academy, Anstruther.
The Waid Academy is a public secondary school in Anstruther, Fife. The school's catchment area extends to as far as Elie and Colinsburgh to the west and Crail to the east (the East Neuk boundaries) but accepts pupils from towns such as Leven, Upper Largo, Lundin Links, Kennoway and Markinch.
The Waid Academy was opened in September 1886 on its old site and is a non-denominational, co-educational, comprehensive secondary school with 670 pupils at present. The school moved to its current site in June 2017.
A loyal British servant, when the American War of Independence started in 1776, Waid a loyal colonist, was actively engaged on the Loyalist side. He lost his ship “Thrifty Lass” shortly after the war started to the rebels. He returned to his native homeland by 1781.

10 giu 2015 · Andrew Waid (1736-1803) was a Lieutenant in the Royal Navy. In 1800 he bequeathed most of his estate for the 'building of an Academy for the accommodation of orphan boys and seamen's boys in indigent circumstances' in his home town of Anstruther.
