22 mar 2023 · The tournament is named in memory of Gyalyum Chenmo, who was the mother of Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama. She passed away on January 12, 1981, and the first GCMGC football tournament was held in October of that year at the Tibetan Children’s Villages (TCV).

15 mag 2024 · DHARAMSHALA, May 15: The 29th Gyalyum Chenmo Memorial Gold Cup (GCMGC) football tournament, the premier sports event of the Tibetan exile community, kicked off on Wednesday, in Hunsur Rabgyaling Tibetan settlement in Southern India.
The primary task were forming of Tibetan National Football Team and organizing football tournaments among the Tibetans. Based on TNSA’s request these four organizations had handed over the Original Gyalyum Chemo Memorial Gold Cup to TNSA. TNSA has organized the GCMGC football tournament more professionally from 2003 onwards.
