Gavin William James Esler (born 27 February 1953) is a Scottish journalist, television presenter and author. He was a main presenter on BBC Two's flagship political analysis programme, Newsnight, from January 2003 until January 2014, and presenter of BBC News at Five on the BBC News Channel.

Gavin Esler is an award winning television and radio broadcaster, novelist and journalist. He is the author of five novels and two non-fiction books, The United States of Anger, and most recently Lessons from the Top, a study of how leaders tell stories to make other people follow them.

Gavin Esler was born on 27 February 1953 in Glasgow, Scotland, UK. He is an actor, known for Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019), Artemis Fowl (2020) and The Amazing Mrs Pritchard (2006). He has been married to Patricia Margaret Warner since 3 July 1979.
