Mary Kate Ryan (31 October 1878 – 18 July 1934) was an Irish academic and the first woman lecturer in University College Dublin's French Department as well as being a political activist who was involved in Ireland's Easter Rising, War of Independence and Civil War.

Also known as: Kit or Cait, Mary Kate O’Kelly. Ryan, Mary Kate (‘Kit’, ‘Cáit’) (1878–1934), academic and political activist, was born at Tomcoole, Taghmon, Co. Wexford, second of twelve children (four sons and eight daughters) of John Ryan, strong farmer, and his wife Elizabeth (née Sutton).

In 1918, O'Kelly married Mary Kate, known as Kit, the daughter of John Ryan, a farmer of Tomcoole, near Taghmon, County Wexford. Kit was an assistant professor of modern languages at the National University. They remained married until her death in 1934, aged 55. They had no children.
