10 gen 2018 · Construction of the Queen Anne High School began in 1908, and classes began the following autumn with 613 students and 33 teachers. Originally the school was named Jefferson High School, but the local community protested to the Seattle School Board, and the school was renamed Queen Anne High School.

Historic Seattle’s Role: The stately English Renaissance Revival Queen Anne High School was built in 1909, with additions in 1929 and 1955. Declining enrollments forced this high school to close in 1981. Restoration and adaptive reuse of the property were goals of Historic Seattle.
Queen Anne High School, located at 201 Galer Street, at the top of Seattle 's Queen Anne Hill, was the banner for a major change in Seattle's education system. “Enlightened” minds around the turn of the century viewed education as a cure-all for America's social ills.
11 set 2013 · Between 1902 and 1910, Seattle's total high school enrollment leaped from approximately 700 to around 4,500. Several new elementary schools were constructed atop Queen Anne Hill, and it was evident that a new high school would be needed to accommodate these students as they moved on to 9th grade.
