The Mikhailovskaya Artillery Military Academy (Russian: Михайловская военная артиллерийская академия) in Saint Petersburg dates back to 1698. In 1849 it was named Mikhailovskaya after Grand Duke Mikhail Pavlovich of Russia.
On August 30 (September 11), 1855, Mikhailovskaya Artillery Military Academy was created on the basis of officer classes of Mickhailovsky artillery military school. Initially it was allotted to the Emperor Military academy and became independent in 1863. The Academy had 3 forms: junior, senior and supplementary.
MIKHAILOVSKY ARTILLERY ACADEMY (МАА), military scientific and educational institution of higher retraining of artillery command personnel. It was based in 1855 on the basis of officers’ classes at the Mikhail Artillery High School within the General Staff Academy; from 1863 it has been an independent academy.
