Sono passati ben 153 anni, precisamente dal lontano 1863, quando un ingegnere minerario, Fredrik Idestam, aprì il suo primo mulino ad acqua, in Finlandia. Serviva a ridurre in poltiglia il legno, per ricavarne carta. L’azienda si chiamava Nokia Ab, perché sorgeva accanto al fiume Nokianvirta.
Nokia's history dates from 1865, when mining engineer Fredrik Idestam established a pulp mill on the shores of the Tammerkoski rapids near the town of Tampere, Finland (then in the Russian Empire). A second pulp mill was opened in 1868 near the neighboring town of Nokia , where there were better hydropower resources. [6]
