Maria Chapdelaine is a French-Canadian historical drama film, released in 1983. An adaptation of Louis Hémon's novel Maria Chapdelaine, the film was directed and co-written by Gilles Carle and starred Carole Laure in the title role.
Maria Chapdelaine est un film franco-québécois réalisé par Gilles Carle, sorti en 1983. Le film s'inspire du célèbre roman que Louis Hémon écrivit en 1913 et qu'illustrèrent brillamment déjà deux célèbres peintres du Québec : Marc-Aurèle de Foy Suzor-Coté (édition de 1916), puis Clarence Gagnon (édition de 1932).
En 1910, Maria Chapdelaine, une jeune fille de dix-sept ans, vit avec sa famille aux abords de la rivière Péribonka au nord du lac Saint-Jean. Les Chapdelaine travaillent sans relâche pour repousser toujours plus loin les limites de la forêt.
