Elizabeth Butler, Marchioness of Ormonde (née Lady Elizabeth Harriet Grosvenor; 11 October 1856 – 25 March 1928), was a British aristocrat who was the eldest daughter of Hugh Grosvenor, 1st Duke of Westminster and Lady Constance Gertrude Sutherland-Leveson-Gower (daughter of George Sutherland-Leveson-Gower, 2nd Duke of Sutherland).

  2. She became Marchioness of Ormond on her husband's promotion on 30 August 1642. In that same year she was allowed to rejoin her husband in Dublin. Their last two children, John and Mary, were born in Dublin while they stayed there together.

  3. Elizabeth Butler, née Preston, Baroness Dingwall, and countess, marchioness, then duchess of Ormonde (1615–84), is the author of the largest body of extant correspondence of any woman from seventeenth-century Ireland, and was arguably the most powerful and well-connected Irish woman of her time.

  5. However, it more closely resembles Elizabeth Harriet Grosvenor, née Leveson-Gower (1857 – 1928), who in 1876 married James Butler, 3rd Marquess of Ormonde. A photographic miniature of Elizabeth, Marchioness of Ormonde, at the same age, confirming this identity, is at Antony, Cornwall (National Trust: no. ANT38).
