The group has existed in various forms since its founding in Long Beach, California. [2] Between 1976 and 1981, the band performed and recorded as the Dirt Band . Constant members since the early times are singer-guitarist Jeff Hanna and drummer Jimmie Fadden.

Another key member of that band was a boy named Jimmie Fadden, who would sit and play Dylan songs with Hanna, transfixed by the way Dylan’s music blended seemingly every roots music strain. Fadden would become Hanna’s lifelong partner in the groundbreaking, hit-making, Grammy winning, long-lived (since 1966), Dirt Band.
In 2003 they were nominated by the Country Music Association for Vocal Event Of The Year. And in 2005 they received a Grammy Award for Best Country Instrumental. We are speaking of course about The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Drummer Jimmie Fadden spoke with us about the history of the group.
