In June 1948, aged just 31, Cullis became manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers and presided over the most successful era in the club's history. In his first season in charge, he became the youngest manager to win the FA Cup at Wembley as Wolves beat Leicester City to win their first major trophy since 1908.

Stan Cullis, l’uomo che si rifiutò di fare il saluto nazista a Berlino, morirà all’età di 84 anni a Malvern il 28 febbraio 2001. Il Molineux Stadium, dove il Wolverhampton gioca, ha deciso di intitolargli una tribuna mentre all’ingresso è stata posta una statua di bronzo in suo onore .
