William George Ranald Mundell Laurie, conosciuto come Ran Laurie (Grantchester, 4 maggio 1915 – Hethersett, 19 settembre 1998), è stato un medico e canottiere inglese, vincitore di una medaglia d'oro ai giochi olimpici.
William George Ranald Mundell "Ran" Laurie (4 May 1915 – 19 September 1998) was an English physician, Olympic rowing champion and gold medallist. He was the father of actor Hugh Laurie.
Laurie senior, che tutti chiamavano Ran, è stato definito dal saggista Daniel James Brown “forse il capovoga britannico migliore della sua generazione, 85 kg di potenza, grazia e acume”. Una persona decisamente riservata, ma inequivocabilmente dotata e vincente in un periodo in cui il canottaggio era tra le discipline olimpiche più popolari.

27 set 2013 · In the British boat, Ran Laurie dug furiously at the water. He was still relatively fresh. He wanted to do more. But like many British strokes in those days, he was wielding an oar with a smaller, narrower blade than the rest of his crew – the idea being that the stroke’s job was to set the pace, not to power the boat.
THE OARSMAN Ran Laurie won a gold medal in the 1948 Olympics, with his colleague in the Sudan Political Service Jack Wilson.
